Practical Information

How to get to Nice:

By plane: If you are traveling by plane to Nice Côte d'Azur airport, you can take tram line 2 from the airport to the city center (direction "Port Lympia"). The trip is short and costs 1.7 euros. The tram stop is right outside the airport and you can buy your ticket on the machines at the stop. See the section below for more information about public transportation.

By train: If you are traveling by train, the train should stop at "Nice Ville" which is central. From Nice Ville, you can walk a few minutes to get to the Gare Thiers tram stop where you can catch tram number 1 that covers a large part of the center of Nice. If you are staying in the eastern part of Nice (for example Esatitude or Apart'City), and your train stops at Nice Riquier, it might be easier to get off the train there and walk or take the tram.

If you are staying at Esatitude, click here for more information.

If you are staying at Apart'City, click here for more information.

How to get to the math department:

The closest tram stop to the math department is "Valrose Université". From Valrose Université, it takes 5 minutes walk to Université Côte d'Azur, Valrose campus, and from the entrance it takes around 5 minutes walk to the math department.

The address of the department is:

J.A. Dieudonné Laboratory,
Parc Valrose,
28 Avenue Valrose
06108 Nice Cedex 02

Transportation in Nice:

Public transportation in Nice is reliable and convenient (and air conditioned).

To buy tickets, you need to purchase first a rechargeable card for 2 , which you can with trips or a period pass. The card is available at machines at any tram stop and can be paid for by card or coins.

  • A single trip costs 1,70 €  (valid for 74 minutes, including transfers)
  • 7-day pass costs 20 € (it seems like a good option).

Alternatively, you can get tickets on your phone using two apps:

  • Lignes d’Azur Tickets (for ticket purchases)
  • Carte Lignes d’Azur Mobile (to store your virtual transit card).

P.S. You need both apps, but you only use the first one.
